Rilke’s poetry translated by Robert Bly

This clumsy living that moves lumbering
as if in ropes through what is not done,
reminds us of the awkward way that a swan walks.
And to die, which is the letting go
of the ground we stand on and cling to every day,
is like the swan, when he nervously lets himself down into the water, which receives him gaily
and which flows joyfully under
and after him, wave after wave,
while the swan, unmoving and marvelously calm,
is pleased to be carried, each moment more fully grown, more like a king, further and further on.

These lines have been keeping me busy these last few days. The swan does not beat himself for being awkward nor does he try to go faster. He finds the place where he belongs—the elemental waters—and begins to flow effortlessly, gracefully and wholeheartedly.

Are you going to beat yourself for not being good enough? Or would you rather flow effortlessly in the direction that your life is taking you, without tension or friction?

Rilke: A hattyú

Félni egyre, élni vontatottan, életünk, akár a hattyú útja, melyet még le sem írt a habokban. És meghalni, titkosan elülni, mily elembe jártunk itt, ki tudja, mint mikor hattyút látsz elmerülni: – a vizen, mely nyájasan fogadja, fodrozódik, elmúlik alatta, s boldogan gyürűzik föl a hab; míg a hattyú csöndesen kiválik, mind nyugodtabb, tisztább és királyibb méltósággal cél felé halad.

Ezek a sorok foglalták le a gondolataimat az elmúlt napokban. A hattyú nem ostorozza magát ügyetlensége miatt, és nem is próbál gyorsabban menni. Megtalálja azt a helyet, ahova tartozik – a vizeket -, és könnyedén, kecsesen, teljes szívvel kezd úszni az árral.

Bántani fogod magad, hogy nem vagy elég jó? Vagy inkább erőfeszítés nélkül haladsz abba az irányba, ahova az életed vezet, feszültség vagy súrlódás nélkül?

Melyek az alapvizeid 2020-ban? Milyen érzés ilyen helyen lenni? Kihozza a benned élő királyt és királynőt?
